Data Recovery

The most common data recovery procedure we perform involves a computer that won’t boot due to a drive failure. This is most often caused by a bump or a knock to the computer while the hard disk is writing critical data. Sometimes the head physically crashes into the the plater. This is where the term ‘hard drive crash’ originated.

Of course failure of spinning hard disks happens for many reasons include wear and tear. Some drives spin at 10,000 rpm with as little as 3 nanometres separating the drive head from the disk plater. This provides very little room for error. Something that goes hand in hand with data recovery is your backup plan. To ensure we can recover as much data as possible stop using the media or the effected computer straight away.

  • Stage one recovery prices start from only $250 for most media types including hard drives, discs and flash cards. This price includes GST and the replacement drive. In most situations we can recover your data in this first stage.
  • The second stage of disc recovery is the physical dismantling and repair of the media. This involves a clean room and specialist repair tools.

    The Federal Government abandons internet filter

    Senator Conroy has announced that the Federal Government will no longer be implementing a mandatory internet filter in Australia.

    The internet filter was proposed back in 2008 as a way to increase internet regulation in Australia. The filter would have required ISPs to block content deemed unsuitable by the Australian Communications and Media Association (ACMA).

    The internet filter was criticised heavily by civil libertarians and technology businesses for being out of touch with the way the internet works and also a breech upon the civil rights of Australians. The Electronic Frontiers Association has welcomed the announcement, after years of campaigning against its introduction.

    What information will be collected by Supportedge when I visit their site?

    Every computer connected to the Internet is given a domain name and a set of numbers that serve as that computer’s “Internet Protocol Address” (IP address).
    When a visitor requests a page from within the Supportedge web site, our web servers automatically recognise that visitor’s domain name and IP address. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed my site. We use this information to examine our traffic in aggregate, and to investigate misuse of the Supportedge web site, its users, or to cooperate with law enforcement.

    We do not collect and evaluate this information for specific individuals. Our web servers do not automatically record e-mail addresses of the visitors.
    We may also request your e-mail address or mailing address for the purposes of conducting surveys or providing additional services (for example, subscriptions to e-mail newsletters and quotes).
