Posted on: February 14th, 2020 by system No Comments

Google Chromes latest version 32 was released on 15th of January.

The latest version of Google’s browser has a few new additions that should prove popular with users, most notably a speaker icon which appears on tabs that are currently making noise.

Chrome 32’s other additions include stronger Safe Browsing malware – in which the browser will now automatically block all malware files and then alert you to it at the bottom of the screen

Google has also announced that the new browser has addressed 21 security issues, as well as fixing bugs and improving stability.

Is 5G coming soon?

Posted on: February 12th, 2019 by system No Comments

Telstra reveals that we could have a new 5G network running as early as the first half of this year and Australians could be one of the first in the world to have this privilege.  They already have a number of smartphone manufacturers bringing their 5G compatible phones exclusively to their 5G network.

This could mean that we can download a 4K movie on our smartphones in only a few seconds! Not only will data transfer will be at hyper speeds, but consumers will be able to enjoy high quality streaming and gaming. Also, there will be reduced latency in the transfer of data which will support remote heart surgery to be conducted through a robotic arm.

Automation of physical assets such as tractors, irrigation systems and even livestock will become more common as they can be connected to a network with sensor technology.

The benefits are huge!

Recent phishing emails from “Microsoft”

Microsoft Phishing example

Received any phishy emails lately? We’ve noticed an upspike in fake emails pretending to be big IT companies such as Microsoft and Apple. These emails pretend that you need to change your password or enter your bank details or something similar in order to scam your details from you. This can then be used to commit fraud, identity theft, and other cyber crimes. According to an ACCC report, $174,913 Australian dollars have been lost this year to phishing attacks.

Above you can see an example of a phishing email with some red-flags highlighted. Make sure to always be suspicious of ANY email you receive. It is a good idea to always double-check the sender address and read the entire email before clicking any links or attachments. If anything stands out as suspicious then don’t risk it!

Check out The ACCC’s Scamwatch for a better idea on how scams affect everyday Australians.
